A regular question from Israelis when they discover you don't speak Hebrew.

A regular question from Israelis when they discover you don’t speak Hebrew.

you need to speak Hebrew ( image: dyn.politico, com)

And the question is put in a uniquely Israeli way; something between curiosity and accusatory. Of course, they accept the fact that you don’t yet speak Hebrew if you’ve only lived in Israel for a very short time.

But, with the passing of the months, their tolerance level diminishes in direct proportion to your time here.

So, how important is it to speak Hebrew?

At the very least, it’s essential that you speak Hebrew at the level of what we call “Street Hebrew”. Our speciality is getting you started on the basics that you need to survive on a daily basis.

Whether in the supermarket, the pharmacy the doctor’s office or the municipality, you must have the ability to speak Hebrew at some level.

Not every clerk or shop assistant speaks English or French or Spanish or whatever is your mother tongue.

Whilst it is true that those that do like to show off that fact, this will not help YOU to speak Hebrew.

Do you only need to speak Hebrew? What about reading and writing?

One step at a time! Of course you will need a comprehensive grounding in all aspects of learning the language if you want to integrate into Israeli society. But, a surprising number of people speak Hebrew without being able to read or write it!

That’s also true, for example, of Chinese – but we are not opening a branch of “Street Chinese” just yet!

So, you want to start to speak Hebrew?

It’s the modern and convenient way to get started with Hebrew phrases and conversation. As our many clients who use this method can testify, there are is no easier way than learning to speak Hebrew on Skype.

Learning to speak Hebrew on Skype has one major benefit!

It’s the flexibility! Subject, of course to time zone variation, you can learn at a time that suits you. You can relax with your favourite drink, sit back and engage in your first conversations in Hebrew on Skype. Here at Street Hebrew, as our name implies, our philosophy is to get you speaking real conversational Hebrew as quickly as possible.

We teach the Hebrew that Israelis speak every day. In he beginning, we concentrate on word groupings and vocabulary. The intricacies and mysteries of grammar are kept to a minimum during the initial periods.

Not that Hebrew grammar is so complicated, compared to some other languages. Although there are rules to be followed, there are, naturally, some exceptions.

But our worksheets guide you through this small minefield, and our “face to face” teaching ensures that explanations can be instant – no more frantic searching through books and dictionaries to try to find the answers.

That’s yet another benefit of learning to speak Hebrew on Skype

The fact that you have instant connection with your teacher who concentrates solely on you and your needs. You are not part of a group, but an individual. So this enables us to pace the lessons according to your abilities, not some rigid rule book with time limitations and restrictions.

Call us NOW for details of our programmes and see how you can qualify for a FREE INTODUCTORY LESSON.

Contact us through our website or e-mail us at : addam@streethebrew.com

We look forward to explaining the benefits and advantages of learning to speak Hebrew on Skype with us!

Hi!

My name is Joseph, and I am 11 years old.

My Father is the founder and Managing Director of “Street Hebrew”. I would like to tell you the story of how I learned to be fluent in Hebrew in just one year.

I moved to Israel when I was 8 years old, and was enrolled in a school in which the only language used daily was Hebrew.

For the first 3 months I had no friends and I was miserable as I could not communicate with anyone. Eventually, after about 6 months, I began to make friends, and then I realised how much of the language I actually knew!

How did I pick up Hebrew?

I ‘m not sure from where I picked it up, so I guess most of it came from the street, or everyday living, like going to the supermarket.

Suddenly, I found myself surrounded by friends. neighbours and teachers, who I could now talk with and I was as happy as a dog who just discovered a new bone!

it’s true that I was young and, therefore, I think that I was able to pick up the language more quickly than an adult, But I think that adults can still learn it quite quickly.

Hebrew is not difficult to learn

Hebrew is a very easy language, and I am confident that if you find a good teacher, for example, my father, then it won’t take long until you are fluent.

I was surprised, myself, how much Hebrew I could actually speak, and life has only moved uphill since then.

I wrote a short poem on speaking Hebrew, and here it is:

I want to speak it

But I only pick it up bit by bit

Who should I choose to teach me?

Hey! You never told me about him

And now my life is not so dim

It’s STREET HEBREW

(I know the poem wasn’t brilliant, but I’m not a professional poet!)

Well, I know that was not a long story, but the fact is I now speak Hebrew, and it was well worth the wait for the first 6 months.

(An unsolicited – and unbiased – testimonial from the son of the founder of Street Hebrew. Contact us to find out how you can learn Hebrew in a more structured way than Joseph: visit our website or e-mail us at: addam@streethebrew.com)

With our "one on one" tutoring on Skype, you will be taken on a step by step journey that will enable you to begin to speak Hebrew within a few hours.

Street Hebrew is the perfect site to help you to begin to speak Hebrew.

Even Her Majesty wants to begin to speak Hebrew!

We know that many people are nervous and are afraid to take the first step. Perhaps it’s because Hebrew sounds strange compared to, say English or other European languages.

It’s true that, when you begin to speak Hebrew, you will have to master one or two sounds that you are not used to.

Begin to speak Hebrew without fear

Being a total beginner has it’s advantages when it comes to learning pronunciation, as you begin to speak Hebrew. At least you don’t bring any bad habits with you!

Street Hebrew actually concentrates on conversational and everyday (“Street”) Hebrew. With our “one on one” tutoring on Skype, you will be taken on a step by step journey that will enable you to begin to speak Hebrew within a few hours.

Our worksheets provide the support you need to revise at home between lessons. They are designed to cover real daily situations, from coping at the bank or doctor’s office to shopping and dealing with various institutions and organisations.

Naturally, we take into account your motivation and purpose in wanting to begin to speak Hebrew and tailor the course accordingly.

Now, as you are thinking about how to begin to speak Hebrew, you should consider that Hebrew is not the mother tongue of over 40% of Israeli citizens! All new immigrants were once where you are now. The diversity of the ethnic backgrounds of Israel’s population means that Hebrew is spoken with a wide variation of accents and intonations.

To begin to speak Hebrew is a positive step

The fact that you try to speak Hebrew is seen as a positive step by those you meet, and they will not ridicule your efforts.

Anyway, as the saying goes, you will never know unless you try. So give us a call and we will be pleased to talk through with you the options available.

To get you started we begin with a FREE INTRODUCTORY LESSON and then we take it from there.

If you really would like to begin to speak Hebrew there is no better way than Street Hebrew.

Or is it a combination of the two, and why does it matter?

Here, at Street Hebrew, we endeavour to adjust our programmes to meet the individual requirements of each client. The motivation and the purpose to speak Hebrew is a critical component of the course.

If, for example, you’re coming to Israel on holiday or on a short business trip, and would like to memorise some basic phrases to make your trip more comfortable, we would use our Short Beginners Programme with specific vocabulary for this purpose.

Speak Hebrew on different levels

Learning any foreign language requires some effort, but we try to minimise the hard slog by starting with basic phrases and situations which we talk through with you on a “One on One ” basis.

Talk to us NOW about how we can help you to speak Hebrew.

and sign up for our FREE INTRODUCTORY LESSON.

That’s not as difficult as you might imagine. Here, at Street Hebrew, we concentrate on providing a basic framework that enables you to speak Hebrew in the everyday manner of the average Israeli.

One reason that it is easy to speak Hebrew, in a way that doesn’t tag you as an outsider, is that for over 40% of Israelis, Hebrew is not their mother tongue. They also had to learn it as a second language. Also, for 20% of Israeli citizens, Arabic is their first language, Hebrew is their second. The variety of ethnic backgrounds of Israelis means that there is a wide variation in pronunciation and accents.

No one will laugh at you if you make a mistake!

In colloquial spoken Hebrew there is a smattering of both Arabic and English, or English sounding words adapted to Hebrew. For example, the regular, and informal, way to end a phone conversation is to say “Yallah – Bye!” This is from the Arabic “Yallah” meaning something like “let’s go” (in this case “I’m going”), and the English “Goodbye”.

Learning to speak Hebrew is easier than learning to write it.

The grammar is straightforward and, unlike English, exceptions to the rules are rare.

Obviously, the best way to speak Hebrew is on a “one to one” basis with your teacher – and that’s exactly what Street Hebrew does, The interaction via Skype gives you all the confidence that you need.

You are not just one anonymous student in a class

You are an individual to whom we devote all our attention during the teaching session.

Learning to speak Hebrew our way can be fun.
